Children are an important part of the life of our church. When a child is baptized, the congregation is asked whether it will support the parents in the nurture of the child. The congregation responds, "We will." We are committed to make that promise a reality for our littlest Christians.
The curriculum we use is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), a Montessori religious education program that encourages children to ponder the nature of the kingdom of God, to fall in love with Jesus, and to enter into the Eucharistic liturgy. Dcn. Arica is a certified catechesist for Levels 1 and 2 of CGS, and she will complete her Level 3 formation in 2018.
About five minutes into the service, children ages 3-10 have the opportunity to process out behind the children's cross to Catechesis. They return during the notices in time for Communion. On special feast days and Holy Week services, the children participate with the adults for exciting things like festal processions, baptisms, and Easter fire.
Children are also welcome in the service. When visiting with your family for the first time, plan on coming a few minutes early so that we can help you and your child(ren) feel as comfortable as possible in whichever setting you choose.
