January 1 is not just a day that begins the new year but also the Feast of the Name of Jesus. It is appropriate that we begin the new year celebrating the Name of Jesus. As our resolutions fade, the power of His Name never fades. God the Father has given no other Name by which salvation comes. Philippians 2:9-11 tells us that "God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
As we begin the new year, the best resolution we can make is to put our faith, our hope, our trust in Jesus. We no longer need to be ruled by our old habits, but through faith in Him, we can begin a new journey. Self-improvement no longer depends on us, but is guided, directed, and empowered by Him, through the Holy Spirit, living in those who put their trust in Jesus. Unlike our resolutions, the presence of Jesus in the lives of those who put their faith in Him will not fade away. He promises to be always with us. He is eternal, the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow, so we can be sure a resolution to believe in His Name will not be futile.
