This Sunday, Sept 25th, marks the end of Archdeacon Ron Gauss' season of service with us as vicar. We are deeply grateful to him for helping us through the initial period of transition - and that we can still draw on his wisdom in the coming weeks and months.
Ordination and Celebration
One of Fr. Ron's accomplishments has been overseeing the final stages of discernment as our own Dcn. Jim Ferguson prepares for ordination as a priest. Bishop Julian Dobbs will ordain him for this new stage of ministry during the CANA East clergy/spouse retreat in Florida on October 5th.
On October 9th, please join us at our regular 4pm service as the newly ordained Fr. Jim preaches and presides at Communion for the first time. Reception to follow. Cards and gifts of congratulations can be sent to the church.
Rector Search Update
The vestry has made our way through the first group of prospects without finding the right candidate to join us as rector, so we have posted the position on the Anglican Church in North America job board. We will be posting elsewhere soon as well. Bp. Julian continues to talk with other candidates.
Given the part-time nature of the position, we realize that this may take a while to fill. We are praying for someone to be found quickly, but we are prepared to continue in interim mode for as long as is needed. God has us in pretty good shape, actually, with everything we need in order to continue serving him together.
I spoke with Bp. Julian this week (he was in Lagos, Nigeria) and was encouraged by that conversation. He is looking to clear his schedule so that he can come be with us soon, and he assures me of the full support of the diocese.
Who's in Charge Here?
Well, God and Bp. Julian. But moving forward, what our bylaws call "temporal and spiritual authority" at Christ Church Anglican now falls to me as the Bishop's Warden. I will be helping to coordinate the clergy staff, Fr. Jim and Dcn. Arica, and making any necessary decisions in consultation with the Vestry and Bp. Julian.
Practically speaking, Fr. Jim will now be celebrating Eucharist when he is available, and we plan to alternate preaching duties between him and Dcn. Arica as well as visiting clergy. I do not plan to preach.
The clergy will also divvy up pastoral care and continue their current responsibilities. For Dcn. Arica, that includes coordinating music, volunteers, and children's ministry as well as some administrative duties. For Fr. Jim that includes home groups, prayer ministries, outreach, and adult education. We thank God for their faithful service among us.
On the music front, we have secured the services of an interim organist, Ruth Rineer. We welcome her.
If you have any questions or comments about anything please send me an email or give me a call.
Please pray for the parish daily - for Fr. Jim and Dcn. Arica, for Bp. Julian, for your vestry, and for the rector God is calling for us.
