Jesus offered us a way back. However, the way back goes through the cross, and the path through the cross requires us to turn away from our self-will. Our self-will drives our motives to dominate, to "win" whether it be to achieve power, success, or wealth. The problem is so often we ignore the needs of others in our desire to meet our own needs. And so often we ignore God. The first step back is to repent, to turn away from our self-will and submit our will to God. We do that by confessing our sin to God, and recognizing the way back is through the cross of Jesus Christ, God' s Son. When we do that, we gain access to a new way of living, a kingdom of heaven way of living. However, it does not happen in a flash, but happens through a process of the Holy Spirit working in us to create regenerate hearts and a new way of relating to God and to each other. This is why Jesus came proclaiming, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." He was offering a new way of living to the people of the world. His way of living is still on offer today, if we only will accept His call to repentance and belief in Him.
