Regardless of your role in the church, your spiritual background, or experience with prayer in general, intercessory prayer is something to which we are called as followers of Jesus Christ. And as such, Jesus modeled this for us many times throughout his ministry, acting as a mediator and advocate for us when approaching his (and our) heavenly Father. For the next few weeks, we will be taking time to unpack what it means to intercede and how to go about it, whether it be as a trained prayer minister or in our private spiritual practices.
Week One: What, Why, and Who?
What is “intercession”? What is the intercessor’s role? Am I ready to be an intercessor? Why is intercessory prayer so important? Are we required to do it? How is intercession modeled for us in the Bible? Does it make a difference?
Week Two: How? The Nuts and Bolts
Where do I start? How do I prepare my heart, mind, body, and spirit for intercession? What are some “do’s” and “don’ts” while praying for others? How do I practice intercession? What are some spiritual disciplines I should try to implement?
Week Three: How? “What Ifs” and What to Expect
What are some things I should expect to encounter as an intercessor? What if someone has a prayer request or concern that is beyond my experience?
Week Four: Take Courage! Hope, Healing, and Success Stories
Our intercessory team will share some experiences of God’s handiwork through intercessory prayer. We will talk about the hope offered to the prayerful through God’s Word and about things to remember when we hit a spiritual “wall” of darkness or doubt.
